Geocache Description:

The national tourist site - the cave "Orlova Chuka" - is located on the left slope of the picturesque river Cherni Lom.

The name of the cave is linked with that of the imperial crown, which is the entrance and '. In the recent past a wreath that was refuge for eagles.

The entrance to the cave was discovered in July during the hot summer of 1941 by a shepherd Stoyan Spasov. In the hot summer days he noticed that his sheeps are accumulated in one place. Decided to examine why, and when I leaned over the crack, he felt that it comes out cool air. Displaced several stones and entered the cave. Before it is discovered the mysterious and wonderful world of the cave "Orlova Chuka".

Urbanization of the cave began in 1959, when the slope of the cave is built 124 stone steps and breakthrough artificial tunnel - entrance.
In 1960 cavers from Ruse examine the cave. In the recesses skeletons of two huge cave bears and three bears.
It was found that in Old Stone Age, 80 000 - 40 000 years, the cave was inhabited by Neanderthals. Found knives, a top copy and flint scrapers. Copper Age in stone here lived precursor of the people - the cromanion. Since then other parts are beautifully decorated crock, stone axes and others. In its galleries live more than 15 cave species. The largest colonies were formed bats, large and small horseshoe bat and bat ostrouh. In the rock galleries multiply and shrill bat species that is unique to Europe.

For a comprehensive survey of the northeastern part of the Orlova Chuka (after Tesnyaka) largest Rousse cavers have merit. For them, the huge maze of Orlova Chuka cave cleaning is subject to constant study.
Orlova Chuka cave is a very complex system of tunnels, caves, large and small halls.
Artificial way of the cave leads to the first cave, known until 1976 large vestibule. This year during the March musical celebrations, concerts in the hall Rousse Philharmonic, passed with great success due to its excellent acoustics. Since then, large vestibule was name the Concert Hall. Thereafter annually during the March Music festivals in Rousse in the cave concerts in various formations.
In the Concert Hall can admire the beautiful large stalactite, 3.5 meters high and having a diameter of 50 cm in the peripheral parts of the hall stalactites and stalagmites formed bizarre formations: the Pyramids, Rhyniophyta Forest, Family, huge stone spindle, Owl, turtle, dinosaur Orlitsa, reindeer, travnite the apiary hives, fountain geyser sinter forest on the verandah, decorated the periphery with small stalactites and leaning on a thin Stalaktone.
West of the Concert Hall extends a large gallery, which leads to the Big and Little Spring. Here we can admire the cascade formed, very beautiful little sinter lakes, sculpted in silver and decorated by calcite fringes with fine stalactites. Water in ponds is crystal clear.
Northeast of the Concert Hall begins narrow, unlit tunnel that leads to a small gap. Urbanized tourist trail passes beautifully sculptured limestone in the loop to the left of which, in east-west, identifies two tunnels. Wider tunnel is known as dance hall, where during speleologists caravel expeditions organized underground camps.

The largest hall in the Orlova Chuka cave was named Large talus. Here is the end of the urbanized part of the cave. The walls and in places there sinter formations where one can see the shapes of the players with the ball at his feet, body and head of the snake's head and trunk of the elephant, pigeon, reindeer, ready to jump, and the bear, which is cast on the reindeer .
The ceiling of the hall Large talus is remarkable for evorzionnite domes. Bottom is covered with fine sand and clay, painted with stripes of rust colored backgrounds. They were imported into the cave through the openings in the cavern, which are still visible in the highest parts of the ceiling. At places along the bottom of the hall has boulders, probably from the ceiling collapsed during strong earthquakes.
This hall is very lair of the bat, so that places on the bottom and bats have heaps of manure - guano.
Until the Great Hall of talus is located in the small hall Small talus. West of the main gallery is separated tunnel, which ends with the small but beautiful Space Hall. Nearby in the small hall Rest is shaped tunnel, the end of which is richly decorated by calcite crystals, like cracks. This extraordinarily beautiful part of the cave tunnel have named Paradise.
Northwest of the hall began long nameless Holiday Gallery, which has primary direction from southeast to northwest, and then from the southwest to the northeast. Finally, the tunnel became trudnoprohodima lazeyka narrow-called Russian Boulevard.
At the entrance of Orlova Chuka cave was inhabited by humans in paleolithic is evidenced found stone tools. It was inhabited during eneolith (4 000 - 2 000 BC), as evidenced by pieces of pottery.
Orlova Chuka cave is formed in the Cretaceous limestone and calcareous sandstone. Early formation of the cave must refer to the late Pliocene (about 3.5 million years) where waters then, with relatively straightforward bed river penetrate tectonic cracks. These waters dissolved limestone, extending their tectonic cracks, convert them into tunnels and rooms. As evidence of penetration of the former river waters are on the ceiling of the cavern large halls and small talus, which today are filled with Pliocene soil - terra rossa. The river, which created the cave, remains and is part of its gravel found in many places in the cave. This gravel is poorly ogladeni urgonski limestone and relatively well-rounded sandstone and flint brought from further afield. In places, the cave behind Tesnyaka Rousse cavers discovered hydrated inserted in the kettle of water. These soot are probably associated with burned forests on the surface of the cave may have a connection with the soot produced by the fires, and pallets of prehistoric inhabitants.
During the Pleistocene began filling the cave tunnels and rooms with a thick layer of clay sediments resulting from weathering and destruction of the vault and walls of the cave. Of small local water drops are carved calcite characteristic decoration of the caves.

Ruse Regional Administration, County Council of the Romanian city of Giurgiu and the environmental organization "New Chance" have developed a project to conserve biodiversity in the cave of Orlova Chuka. The project is an initiative of eight, which both countries apply for EU funding under Phare Cross-Border Cooperation. The project aims to improve living conditions and breeding colonies of bats in their rock home. Orlova Chuka cave is the largest investigated spot occupied by the flying mammals. According to project leader on the Bulgarian side Dimitar Marinov, the goal is to make a working model for cooperation in the region of Ruse-Giurgiu protection of endangered species.
