Lužní les Libechovka / Riparian forest of Libechovka
[CZ] Lužní les je les rostoucí podél vodních toku, pro který je charakteristická velmi vlhká puda s nízkým obsahem kyslíku a obcasné záplavy. V této zamokrené pude mohou rust jen nekteré stromy prizpusobené temto podmínkám. Lužní les plní duležitou funkci pri zadržování vody a stabilizaci brehu a je proto jedním z nejúcinnejších prostredku ochrany proti záplavám. Predstavuje také úcinný filtr, který zlepšuje kvalitu vody zadržováním sedimentu a odstranováním rozpuštených látek koreny. Krome toho predstavuje lužní les specifické stanovište s malou ruznorodostí, která presto vykazuje znacnou biodiverzitu s mnoha specializovanými druhy rostlin a živocichu. Lužní lesy byly bohužel do znacné míry zniceny – hlavne rícními regulacemi a využíváním pudy k zemedelským úcelum. V soucasnosti zbývá ve strední Evrope z puvodních nekolika tisícu jen asi 300 km2 (z toho jen 60 km2 prirozených) lužních lesu.
Údolí potoka Libechovka predstavuje krásný príklad lužního lesa, kde dominantními stromy jsou olše lepkavé (Alnus glutinosa), ale vyskytují se zde i vrby (Salix sp.) a místy jilm vaz (Ulmus laevis). Mokrady Libechovky jsou spolu s mokrady potoka Pšovka uvedeny v Ramsarské úmluve o ochrane mokradu. Nachází se zde mnoho rostlin a živocichu, kterí se vyskytují pouze v mokradech Libechovky nebo tu existují jejich nejvetší populace v rámci Ceské republiky a predstavují tedy pokladnici pro prírodovedce. Filtracní úcinek pískovcu a lesu zpusobuje, že tato oblast je významným zdrojem podzemní vody pro znacnou cást stredních Cech.
Keška vás privede na zacátek velice krátké procházky (ca 300 m) lužním lesem. Po vetšinu roku je cesta pomerne suchá, takže ji mužete projít v normálních turistických botách, ale nekdy – hlavne pri jarní velké vode – muže být i nepruchodná.
[ENG] A riparian forest is a forest that growth along a river and is characterised by the very wet and consequently often oxygen-poor ground and occasional flooding. On the wet ground only specialised trees can grow. Riparian forest has an important function in retention of water and stabilisation of the shorelines and therefore is one of the most effective protections against floods. It also represents an important filter that improves water quality since sediments are caught and nutrients are removed by the roots. Moreover, the riparian forest is a specific habitat with a small-scale diversity that hosts a rich biodiversity with many specialised plants and animals. Unfortunately, riparian forest has been destroyed on the large scale, mainly to regulate rivers or to gain land for agriculture, so that today there are only 300 km2 (60 km2 natural habitat) left in Central Europe of what used to be thousands of km2.
The valley of Libechovka creek holds a very fine example of riparian forest with black elder (Alnus glutinosa) as dominant tree, but also willows (Salix sp.) and occasionally White elm (Ulmus laevis). The wetlands of Libechovka together with the wetlands of the creek Pšovka are listed in the Ramsar Convention of Protection of Wetlands. There is a number of plant and animal species that have their only point of occurrence or their biggest population in the Czech Republic in the wetlands of Libechovka; therefore they represent a treasure for naturalists. Due to the filtering effects of the sandstone and the forest, the area is an important reservoir of groundwater for a major part of Central Bohemia.
The cache will introduce you to a very short (about 300 m) walk through the wet forest. The way is most of the year dry enough that you can walk with normal hiking shoes, but might be impassable for a short period in spring during high water level.
