Geocache Description:

Cacheport #120

In the spirit of many other great group hikes, please join fellow geocachers in this hike from Fort Erie to Chippawa which will cover approximately half the distance in the Fort-to-Fort Hike along the Niagara Parkway. This hike covers the Southern section. Please gather at the posted coordinates which are the main entrance to the actual military fort in Fort Erie. We will be heading out from this point at 9am on Saturday November 27th. For those interested in setting up a shuttle for cars, there is a large lot at King's Bridge Park where one car can be left while another drives to Fort Erie. Arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 at the provided parking in Chippawa to leave enough time to drive to Fort Erie, and this location might be of value to some.

It would be best to dress for a brisk walk as November can be a bit chilly and the Niagara Parkway is both open and near water. The path itself is all paved and can be done with regular walking shoes and is stroller and wheelchair compliant. During the hike we will be passing many historic locations from the War of 1812, Canadian National and Provincial Historic Sites and the Underground Railroad.

Since this hike features the Niagara Parkway, extra information can be obtained from

In general, the pace of the hike is leisurely and should take between 6 to 8 hours as a guess. Those that would rather not hike the entire section in one outing are certainly welcome to join us at Fort Erie in order to claim attendance at the event. Participating in the hike is optional.

When logging your "Will Attend" please indicate if you would like to go for dinner after the hike. Arrangements have been made for a restaurant in Chippawa. We will be going to "The Boat House" at 3807 Macklem St. They have ample parking and room for us and are expecting our group sometime between 4pm and 5pm. The location of the restaurant will be added as a waypoint soon. They also have a website for more details if you choose to look it up.

For those interested in observing from a distance, check out this tracking page on Event Day which will allow those to keep tabs on one of the hikers as we make our way along the parkway. This can be useful if people need to be picked up or want to meet us at the restaurant. It updates every 10 to 15 minutes and shows the location on Google Maps.

Rain Date will be Dec 4th if we get rained out. I will post before 7am on hike day whether the hike is still a go or will be postponed. A light mist is not enough to cancel it but raining will be.

If you are working towards completing your Cacheport, be sure to find me to have your cancellation performed. This will only be done at the event.

Guest Reviewer: MadMin - "Long hikes with good friends" will forever remind me of the great hike MadMin set-up to climb Mount Greylock. In addition to this, MadMin and another reviewer often remind me of the fun that geocaching is through sharing their escapades. I look forward to the DVD release of Season 1, she already has the cover artwork!

The Cacheport Series: This is cache #120 - Please make sure that you perform your cancellation with your Cacheport book, if you are participating in this optional activity.
