Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above co-ordinates. You will have to follow the clues from each of the stages. There are 6 stages and then the final location. All of the information that you will require will be found in Terrace Gardens. I have designed the puzzle to keep the number of steps to a minimum, but unfortunately there are some steps involved so I have marked it as unsuitable for wheelchair users. The co-ordinates above will take you to the starting location for the puzzle.

You are looking for a small, camouflaged container inside is a logbook and pen. There should be enough space for small swaps, TBs and Geocoins.

About Terrace Gardens
The land occupied by Terrace Gardens has a long history dating back to the 17th Century. You will find much of it’s history described on the many information panels that will be found around the gardens.

Terrace Gardens opened to the public in 1887. It was formed from three separate gardens that belong to Houses that occupied this land. They were: Buccleuch House (1760’s), beside the river; Lansdowne House (c.1765) high upon the terrace; and Cardigan House (c.1791), on the more gentle slopes, closer to the centre of Richmond town. All three houses have now been demolished (the last was Cardigan House that was demolished in 1970) leaving these beautiful gardens.

During the 20th Century a number of improvements were made to the gardens including improving the drainage, repairing pathways and planting many of the ornamental trees we see today. Between 2007 and 2009, Richmond Council invested £1M in the refurbishment of Terrace and Buccleuch Gardens. Elements of the restoration project included the upgrading of the infrastructure with major repairs to paths, steps and walls as well as repairs to furniture, features and artefacts. Conservation features were also installed to enhance the biodiversity of the site and large areas of the Gardens were re-planted to encourage wildlife. The ceremony marking the restoration project took place on Thursday 9th July 2009 and was attended by the HRH The Earl of Wessex KG KCVO.

Many thanks to Richmond Council Parks Dept for their help and permission for this cache.

Quick word on the calculations.....
You need to calculate the three decimal points for both the longitude and latitude for each location. In these calculations, "3A" is used as shorthand for 3 multiplied by A. So, for example, if A=1, B=2 and C=3 then 51 27.C(2C+B)A equates to 51 27.381.

Once you have calculated the final location, you can check your co-ordinates using geochecker. Click here.

Stage 1
N 51° 27.280 W 000° 18.014
This is the starting point for your quest. Head South and look for Jimmy’s (not Jim's) bench. When did this treasure pass away? AB=the last two digits of the year. C=the month (where January = 1, February =2, March=3 etc)

Stage 2
Use the answers from the previous stage to calculate this location.

When was the wall "presented"? D=day of the month

Stage 3
Use the answers from the previous stages to calculate this location.
51 27.DD(2B+C) 000 18.AAC
