Geocache Description:

Built in 1911, Barnham Signal Box is the last surviving example of it’s type. Closed on 26th March 2008, it was due to be demolished but following a petition set up by a local group it’s future was ensured.

On the 6th December 2009 it was moved to it’s new home in the playing fields near Aldingbourne Community Centre. Local residents and rail enthusiasts lined the route as the box was transported on the back of a lorry. Trees along the road had been trimmed in preparation and a crew of engineers lifted overhead telephone cables to enable it to pass. With funding from Network Rail, equivalent to the cost of demolition, and a grant from the Railway Heritage Trust, it will be restored to it’s former glory.
The cache is a film pot containing a log book only.

The home owner adjacent to the cache is aware of it but please respect their privacy. Please do NOT enter the garden. Please ensure cache is well hidden when replaced
