The Cobalt Zone Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

paddlehikers: It is with heavy heart, repeatedly muddied boots and a sincere inability to understand the motivation of those bent on wrecking people's fun that we must put this adventure out out its misery.

Apologies to the final finders. The container with the special tool was where it was meant to be. You just didn't look hard enough. That said....

Obviously this cache has been compromised beyond repair. Sad, but true.

Time to Zone Out.

Thanks for the fun!

Geocache Description:

You unlock this door with the key to imagination. Beyond it lies another dimension. A dimension of sight. A dimension of sound. A dimension of mind. A journey between shadow and substance. A quest for a park&grab pretending to be both less and more than it is. A lame hide?.. Or one with a deep and dark secret?...

Submitted for your consideration;an invitation to embark upon a geocachical odyssey that may forever alter the way you anticipate a simple set of fixed coordinates. An opportunity to reach for a new understanding of longitude and latitude and perhaps discover that it is indeed possible to come back to a place you've never been before. The journey before you offers a test of will and spirit, and with it a chance to experience a place where a simple pile of sticks could very well be hiding more than meets the eye. A place that exists only in The Cobalt Zone.

Here you will find a familiar yet audaciously camoed container hidden beneath the usual pile of bark and sticks next to a felled tree just off the side of the road. It contains a starting assortment of thoughtful trade items as well as an easily recognized, yet unusually large tool. You will need this tool to retrieve and sign the log which is also hidden beneath the sticks. The log is small, also audaciously camoed. We will allow and actually encourage that you post a selfie holding it, rather than opening and signing. You will still need the tool. The tool, though larger than most of its kind, is safe and simple to operate. This tool will be of no use however, until you carry it a short distance away from the coordinates and return. It comes with simple instructions and will only work if you follow them carefully. That said, here's what you will need to bring along:

Reliable lighting. A candle would be sufficient. A good flashlight would be much better. If you own a headlamp, wear it.

That's it for requirements. We do however strongly urge you to consider the following suggestions in order to make your experience more comfortable, safe and enjoyable:

1. Waterproof boots;calf high will do, or a post-cache change of footwear. Note: For safety purposes, carry those puddle-jumpers until you need them (see #2).

2. Physical prowess/agility/ability to scale steep, uncertain and potentially dangerous inclines.

3. Extra batteries/matches.

4. Partner(s). (For now a casual recommendation, but see #5)

5. Let someone who cares about you know where you are going. Leave coordinates.

6. Consider leaving young children and pets at home.

7. A clean certificate of psychological stability signed by SBK or equivilant.... No, skip that.

8. A basic understanding of the innate instinct, "Fight or Flight."

9. A clearer understanding and acceptance of the Groundspeak terms of participation.

10. Large aggies.

Okay, there really was no need to bring up aggies, large or otherwise and no, we haven't lost our marbles. We just had to round things out to an even 10. Just because... Okay!?? (see #7)

The ratings are based upon what the GC.com estimator determined. If you disagree, okay. If you think this should be classified a "multi", okay. Do it or don't, but if you take this on after a period of heavy rain or snow-melt, notch the ratings up a bit. Please exercise extreme caution at all times.

This cache will involve entering a habitat which is highly sensitive to a hibernating and endangered mammal species. It will therefore be disabled for a certain period each year. Read the logs to ascertain when it is open for business.
