Geocache Description:

The FIFTH one..wow! Where has time gone?

It's that time again for the annual meet and greet Christmas gathering. I am returning to Christmas week this year since there is so much available time between Christmas and New Years. So.... TUESDAY December 29, 2009

The Jackson Hole Diner has welcomed us at least twice before and so we will be there once again. This was the location for many movies including "The Goodfellas". The building is a classic diner, but far from a greasy spoon. My boy scout troop meets around the corner and we've been going to the "Hole" for over twenty years.

Business in Queens is always done 'at the diner' after the meeting than at the meeting itself. An important question asked at many a meeting is "Are we going DINERING tonight?" and the answer is usually "Yes". So why not geocachers?

JACKSON HOLE DINER
69-35 Astoria Blvd (westbound service road of Grand Central Parkway)
Jackson Heights NY 11370

Note: the street numbering is strange in this area...they jump from 49th Street to 70th Street.

Subway: N or W trains to Astoria Blvd and then Q19 or M60 bus at the Columbus Statue to 49th Street. Cross the Parkway at 49th Street. Turn right and walk 2 blocks

R,E,V,7 trains to Queens Plaza/Queensboro Plaza. Take the Q69 bus (Ditmars Blvd) to 70th Street

F train to 21st Street and take the Q69 bus as above

Bus: Q19 (Astoria Blvd) or M60 (LaGuardia to Manhattan) . Westbound stops in front; eastbound stops at 49th Street.

Car: There is a parking lot but please park on side streets..

Grand Central Parkway
From the EAST--Marine Terminal/Steinway Street. Follow service Road.

From the WEST/Triboro Bridge (RFK) -- Take first exit (31st Street. Follow service Road to 49th Street. Turn Left and go 2 blocks to Ditmars Blvd. Turn right and go 2 blocks to 70th Street. You're there.

From Brooklyn--BQE towards the Triboro (RFK) Bridge. Get off at Astoria Blvd (just before Grand Central Parkway) Turn right on first street you can and follow to Ditmars Blvd (2-3 blocks) Turn right and follow to 70th Street. You're there.

So tonight we will "diner." Don't expect a lot of hoopla. It's real informal. We will be there at 7:00- in the back. You have to walk through the front counter.

A meet and greet is lots of people scattered around talking to people they don't know.

For new people, this is a great chance to find out who those strange and exotic geocaching names belong to. Feel free to get up and walk around and introduce yourself. Some people come late, some leave early. Some cache prior, some cache later, some don't cache at all. There will be great esoteric discussions on the most difficult finds ever, and lots of small talk about DNF's.

Bring your geocoins, your travel bugs and your stories. Some people bring entire coin collections for you to discover. And best of all, it's an easy smiley face. And as it's my holiday tradition, I will have some geocoins as door prizes. If anyone else would like to add some to the pot, you are welcome to do so.

See you all soon....John
