Cairo Opera House Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

besem: Aw, what a shame that this cache has to go into the archive bin, as it has been one of my favourites due to the logs from cachers from so many different countries.

Many thanks to anneremco for performing maintenance on the cache when necessary, and thank you for all the cachers who have visited this cache.

This space it now open for a local geocacher to place an even better cache near the same location.

Geocache Description:

The Cairo Opera House

The Cairo Opera House is located on Zamalek island in the Nile river and is a beautiful location in an otherwise noisy and dirty city. The Opera House was inaugurated in 1988 and was funded by Japan as a gift to Egypt following president Mubarak's visit to Japan in 1983. The Opera House was opened by president Mubarak and Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, the younger brother of the Japanese Emperor. See more information here

The easiest way to get there is by Metro to the Opera metro stop. There are several entrances around the opera house, and access is open to the general public. The cache is located in a small nursery, and the best time to go search for the cache is in the late afternoon, when all the nursery staff has left. Utmost stealth is required when retrieving the cache. I have placed it in a location that provides natural cover from onlookers, but if any other person is also in the nursery, it's best to attempt the cache on a different day.

To find the cache, go through the green archway depicted below, and let your GPS take you to the cache!

Happy hunting, and enjoy the sights offered at the Opera House!

Small note on cache maintenance: anneremco will assist. Thanks!
