For decades, Martinsville, VA, was home to several major furniture manufacturers, though in recent years, the industry has all but dried up. In 2002, Bassett Furniture—one of the few surviving companies—built a slightly oversized chair, not unlike the famous Thomasville "Big Chair," to commemorate its 100th anniversary. The chair then went on the road to Bassett Furniture stores across the country. It has now found a permanent home in uptown Martinsville, to symbolize the community's past, present, and future. Needless to say, such a landmark just begs for a cache.
The cache is as small as the chair is large but should be an easy find. Stealth? YES. The container is nowhere near any landscaping, so please do not disturb it. In fact, you can access the container from outside the surrounding brick wall, and my recommendation is to do so. Please be sure to replace the cache exactly as you found it.
Congrats to Kuykenew, FTF.
