Something like that Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

tele420: It's been a long time now. The puzzle's as rusty as can be. The box seems to have gone astray. And, Mortons excepted, it doesn't seem to be getting much love these days.

Archived. May a new flower bloom in this place.

Geocache Description:

A short puzzle for the winter evenings.

So where is this thing? Wait, let me guess, we're not going to find it waiting around here in Bruntsfield.

We're meeting someone here. Anyway, it's under two miles away so there are always going to be some similarities, inescapable things in common - and we get three more than that just sitting here. Same as with those stones gathered together near Calton Hill, and the birthplace question in Bathgate.

Bathgate?? That's more than a few miles away!

It is that - but still the same number of points in common. Also, Balfour's story outside the National Library. So after we've solved the puzzle, we just type the answer into the clever box and follow the arrow.

Clever? I don't see it solving the clues.

Is this one just like the other puzzle caches, nothing to differentiate it?

Differentiate? If we can't have arithmetic, then a calculus of variations is right out!

No number crunching in this hunt?

Nothing like that. Only two extra points here. A little maritime mystery to solve, and then it's off to the dogs...

There'd better not be any canines involved, I'm allergic to waggy tails and puppy-dog eyes.

Hmm, you might need to dodge some when we get there, it's a reasonably popular place for the local doggles.

We're waiting here for this Thomas bloke, right? Can't he go caching on his own?

He's only got one extra point himself, so he'd be unlikely to find it.

Is there an end to these clues, or is it nesting dolls all the way down?

Where we're going is as little like the Russkies as you can get around here. Thank goodness - I've not made quite such a mess of things as then! (and I'm keeping my fingers crossed today)

Such confidence - I'm not predicting this cache as an award-winner. Couldn't we wait somewhere better?

Fountainpark's taking you back up to four extra points already. Or would you prefer hanging out in Princes Street Gardens? Think what you could learn from the statuary there - knowledge is a wonderful thing!

Let's get moving, here he comes.

At last! The hunt is on!

Something like that...
