Der Weilberg befindet sich im Siebengebirge , einem Mittelgebirge südöstlich von Bonn.Es ist vulkanischen Ursprungs und vor etwa 25 Millionen Jahren im späten Oligozän entstanden.Die vulkanische Aktivität ist seit dem Miozän eingestellt.
Der Weilberg erlaubt einen Einblick in den Gesteinsaufbau dieses ehemaligen Vulkans.Die vulkanische Aktivität begann vor etwa 30 Millionen Jahren .Ein gewaltiger Ascheregen (Trachyttuff) ereignete sich.Der Tuff entsteht , wenn sich das sehr feinkörnige Material exlosionsartig ausbreitet und sich später in einer Eruptionswolke an den Vulkanhängen ablagert.In den Tuff drängte sich glühende Lava und brannte den Tuff in der Kontaktzone rötlich ein.Die glühende Basaltlava blieb im Tuff stecken und breitete sich waagerecht aus.Der Tuff wurde so aufgewölbt und an Verwerfungen versetzt.In der Folge kühlte der Basalt ab , wodurch sein Volumen schrumpfte.Weitere glühende Basaltlava strömte ein und verbreiterte sich im weichen Tuff.Sie erweiterte sich kelchförmig im Bereich des oberen Steinbruchs.Im Laufe der Jahrmillionen wurde ein Großteil des Tuffs und Basalts durch Erosionen abgetragen.
Parke an den Parkkoordinaten bei (N 50 41.657 / E 007 13.363) und folge dem Weg in Richtung der Listingkoordinaten.
Beachte die Infotafeln , sie erzählen eine interessante Geschichte und helfen dir die Fragen zu beantworten.
Um den Earthcache zu loggen beantworte folgende Fragen und mache Fotos.
1.Was entstand durch die waagerechte Ausbreitung der glühenden Basaltlava?
2.Warum weist der obere Teil der Steinbruchwand eine deutlich schräge Schichtung auf?
3.(Optional) Mache ein Foto von dir mit dem GPS mit dem Steinbruch im Hintergrund und poste es im Log!
4.(Optional) Mache ein weiteres beliebiges Foto und poste es im Log!

The Weilberg is located in the "Siebengebirge", a mountain range south-east of Bonn. It is of volcanic origin and about 25 million years ago during the late Oligocene. The volcanic activity has ceased since the Miocene. The Weilberg shows you the rock structure of this ancient volcano. The volcanic activity began about 30 million years ago. A mighty rain of ash (Trachyttuff) occurred.Tuff arises when the very fine-grained material spreads in an exposion and later in an eruption cloud settles on the volcano ablagert.In the tuff has glowing lava irrupted and so burned the tuff in the contact zone in that reddish coulor.The glowing red basaltic lava was put in the tuff and spread horizontally.The Tuff has been vaulted and it caused fault.As a result the basalt cooled ,thereby it´s volume shrinked.Later other glowing basalt lava penetrated the tuff and made it wider.The basalt lava expanded bell-shaped in the area of the upper Quarry.Over millions of years, much of the tuff and basalt has been removed by erosion.

and follow the path towards the Listing coordinates.

To log that Earthcache answer the following questions and take some pictures.
1.What was created by the horizontal spread of the hot basalt lava?
2.Why is the upper part of the quarry wall shown an oblique layer?
3.(Optional) Take a picture of yourself with the GPS with the quarry in the background and post it in the log!
4.(Optional) Take another picture at the location and post it with your Log
