Geocache Description:

A cache with a beautiful view from the East side of Swansea.

An easier version of the view from the top of Kilvey!

A peach jar cache placed just off a path that runs along the back of houses and above allotments in St Thomas. The path starts out concrete and soon becomes a dirt track. It has a gentle incline as it skirts the bottom of Kilvey.

On the day the cache was placed, the view from this point was breathtaking; in the east, the docks and their new development, to the west around the bay, the distinctive hills of Mumbles. It had been raining all day, but cleared up just as the sun began to set. I saw cloud bursts of red light over the bay, set off by the lights of the city beginning to come on. The neons of the winter Waterfront Wonderland big wheel finished off the scene as a huge scarlet sun sank lower and disappeared over the horizon. And there was muggins-here without a camera!

I would recommend visiting at twilight, though only the hardy should try this in the dark.

Recommended parking is at N51 37.496 W003 55.159 on Harbour View Road at the top of Jersey Park. In fact, the view from here is pretty good. The cache is about 550 feet away. The views on approach are best from this side, though the path is also accessible from Dupre Road. Following wet weather walking boot or wellies are recommended (small children will have to swim).

From the recommended parking you will also see a gateway into the Kilvey Community Woodland.

Please ensure you are discrete as the cache site is overlooked by the houses to the south side of the allotments a short distance away. Please replace as much natural cover as possible.

The princely sum of £1 is included amid the usual contents for the first finder.
