My girlfriend didn't think she would like geocaching. I thought
she would, since she really likes camping and other outdoor
activities.
So one day I took her on a "hike" at the Penny's Bend nature
preserve. We were half a mile down the trail before I pulled out
the GPSr. She watched tolerantly while I found the first cache; at
the second one she sat down and read the whole logbook. By the time
we got to the third one, she was holding the GPS and shouting
"there it is" way before I saw it.
An idea was born. And this cache is the fulfillment of that
idea. I hid it yesterday, and today I told her there was a new
cache right next to the place where we used to go jogging. We drove
over there, and I handed her the Garmin.
It didn't take her long to find the container. She opened the
log book and read the note on the first page, and when she turned
toward me there were tears in her eyes. I, of course, was on one
knee with a ring in my hand. "Will you marry me?" She said yes!
This is a nice spot, on a hillside overlooking a small creek.
There are jogging trails nearby, which is one of the reasons this
place is special to us. We spent many a morning before work jogging
those trails together, and that's where we really got to know each
other and fell in love.
Note: If you think you need to bushwack to this location,
you are coming at it from the wrong direction!
If you park in the suggested parking location, follow the path
to the athletic fields and start your hunt from there.
