This church is rather special to me as my parents were married
here in 1964. They met, literally, just around the corner at what
was the Fittleworth Rifle Club.
The earliest part of the building now standing is the tower,
dating from the late 11th century, and probably part of the
original church. It is a Grade I listed building.
A cottage at nearby Bedham was for some years the home of Sir
Edward Elgar, who occasionally played the church organ, and
composed some of his work here.
There is a fine yew near the south door, which is about 1000
years old.
To log the cache you will need to find the answer to some clues
in the churchyard.
Sit for a while courtesy of Major Speirs. Which Fittleworth
organisation did he chair? For the Parish Council, A=7. For the
British Legion, A=8. For the Red Cross, A=9.
There are several horizontal memorials for the Benger family.
When did Oswald de Berenger Benger die? BCDE.
In which year was the clock placed in the tower? FGHJ.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would
just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can
keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
