Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of four caches placed near to the parish churches of Droitwich. The caches can either be done separately or as pleasant walk around Droitwich to combine all four. There is ample parking in the town centre or limited parking close to each of the cache sites

Droitwich Spa is a Worcestershire town of about 25,000 people. The parish embraces virtually the whole of the town, and the four Anglican churches, originally separate parishes, now form one single team that relates to the town as a whole. Droitwich Spa is about 5 miles north of Worcester, and 20 miles south of Birmingham.
A Brief History
There was a Roman settlement in Droitwich by around 200 AD, mainly on the slopes of Dodderhill where St Augustine's Church now stands. The main basis for this settlement was salt-mining which has supported the local economy from Roman times through until the mid twentieth century. It is also the most frequently mentioned town in the Doomsday Book
The town today
Many old buildings are visible around the town centre among which are three medieval, and one Victorian, buildings - the Church of England churches
St Peter's
St Peter's still has the feel of what it was until recent times: a village church. It is bounded by and extensive churchyard, playing fields and the Lido Park.
There was a Saxon church on the site, but no traces of it now remain. The current building still retains parts of the Norman building. The church was extended in the 12th century. The southeast window contains a very old example of stained glass work and the north transept was added in the 14th century. The nave was altered in the time of Henry VII, and a new roof put on. The tower was built in 1500AD and contains a peal of six bells
The most significant memorial in the church is that to Edward Winslow, born in St Peter's parish in 1595 and one of the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed on the Mayflower. He served three times as governor of the Plymouth colony, and brought the first domestic cattle to America.

The cache is a small brown canister – you will need to bring your own pencil/pen and may need pin or tweezers to remove the log sheet.
Please replace the cache carefully as this cache has been relocated due to repeated muggling
