Geocache Description:

The posted coords are for parking. Solving this puzzle will lead you to an ammo can on one of the loveliest, wildest stretches of Six-Mile Creek. Your approx 1.5 mile round trip journey will include walking through the Baldwin Preserve, wading across Six Mile Creek, and heading uphill into the Slaterville 600.

Ra is the Egyptian God of the Sun. This cache is published in recognition of the summer solstice on June 21, 2010, the day of the year with the longest period of daylight...surely the God of the Sun would approve. Let the sun in - it's summer! Solve this puzzle to find the location of Ra's Treasure:

Sneferu, Hotepsekhemwy, Usermaatre Piye, Khufu, Amyrtaeus

Merenhor, Teti, Menpehtire Ramesses I, Userkaf, Amun-Ra, Menes

The cache is an ammo can with glistening treasure from the sun god and is decorated with (Eastern) Greek architectural magnets. There is an Egyptian-themed cartouche geocoin for discovery located on the ammo can lid. FTF prize is a new, unactivated Medusa Geocoin.

To reach the cache you will first walk along an easy trail (Blue) through the Baldwin Preserve (acquired by the Finger Lakes Land Trust in 2007) to a Lean To. Then head left downhill and wade across Six Mile Creek. Depending on the season and recent weather, the water may be as much as 18 inches deep. The rocks and creek bed can be extremely slippery: you will likely want rubber-soled boots or sneakers. See photos of the stream you will be crossing - this is a level 4 terrain and will not be suited for all cachers.

Once across the creek, you will have a short walk off-trail to the cache on part of a forested area known locally as the "Old 600" or "Slaterville 600" which is owned by the Cornell Plantations. The name refers to a military lot of 600 acres, or slightly less than one square mile, given to soldiers of the Revolutionary War in lieu of payment.

The old-growth forest here previously was once a favorite nesting site for the now extinct passenger pigeon. Today the property is renowned among local birders for its splendid array of breeding birds.
