Overheard on a Salt Marsh
by Harold Monro
Nymph, nymph, what are your beads?
Green glass, goblin. Why do you stare at them?
Give them me.
No.
Give them me. Give them me.
No.
Then I will howl all night in the reeds. Lie in the mud and howl
for them.
Goblin, why do you love them so?
They are better than stars or water, Better than voices of winds
that sing, Better than any man's fair daughter, Your green glass
beads on a silver ring.
Hush, I stole them out of the moon.
Give me your beads. I desire them.
No.
I will howl in a deep lagoon for your green glass beads, I love
them so. Give them me. Give them me.
No.
Your first location is Benbow Pond. I needed you to visit somewhere
where the above conversation may just have taken place........
Whilst here you could feed the ducks, geese and pair of Black Swans
(and the greedy carp!) and you could visit the nearby Cowdray Craic
GCWCCE. But don't forget to collect the answers you need to find
the cache!
Whilst at the above co-ordinates you will see a plaque with a
name and the year 2000. You need 3 letters from this name. X = the
first letter of the christian name. Y = the last letter of the
christian name and Z = the last letter of the last surname. Now,
convert the three letters you have found into numerical values (ie
A=1 B=2 C=3 etc.)
You can find the cache at N50 59.(X-Z)XZ W000 42.X(X-Y)Z.
It is possible to walk to the cache from Benbow Pond, but it's
not very exciting! Better to repark at N50 59.477 W000 42.766 -
it's a well-used informal car park to the north of the A272. The
way in is between the two entrances to Cowdray Park on the opposite
side of the road.
When set, the cache contained many green glass beads.......
