St Mary's Church, Yapton
As is well known letters in the Roman alphabet also have numerical significance. The most well known are X = 10, V = 5, C = 100. It also follows that groups of numbers can spell words. One well known one is 666 which relates to Satan / Devil. One lesser known one was the inscripton above the cross of Jesus which said "This is Jesus the King of the Jews" The Romans were being extremely sarcastic in the comment but unkowingly the phrase used here added up to 13 x 13 x13. This number is still today considered unlucky by many. The number for this Church micro is 888 which has strong connotations with resurection and gives Christians hope for the future.
Yapton church is special for us as our second daughter is buried here and our belief is that she is not in the grave but in heaven (888)
At the church you will find a notice board which has two phone numbers on it. You will require them both. The first one is for the Church Office and the second for phoning the Rector.
