Geocache Description:

A small cache located next to the church of St Nicholas, Bratton Seymour. Park at the top of Church Walk, just before the church. Please leave room for vehicles to pass.

The Church of St Nicholas dates back to Norman times. The name Bratton means 'farmstead by a brook' with the suffix 'St Maur' indicating manorial ownership by the family of that name. A Norman font and the Norman south doorway are unique features of this simple two cell church of nave, chancel and tower. The low perpendicular tower was probably built in two stages - originally in the 13th or 14th centuries and completed or remodelled in the 15th century. A south porch and vestry have been added later.

Look out for the 17th century chest tomb and 14th century chancel windows. The tower holds three bells; a treble dated 1450 (London foundry), a second recast in 1824 and a tenor dated 1390 from a foundry in Bristol.

The church is part of the the Camelot Group of Parishes in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

The Cache:

is a small clip lock box located just outside the churchyard on a footpath. It will hold small TBs and coins.

An ammo box seemed a bit extravagant for a church micro and I think there should be a bit of a bit of a walk involved to find one.

If you need an ammo box fix whilst you are here, have a go at 'See More of Bratton - GC1NYQ9'.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. Before setting up the cache, contact sadexploration so that he can keep track of the church numbers and names and avoid duplication.
