Horsethief Lake Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Jedi Cacher: I have decided to archive this cache. It has been a very popular one over the years. Located in a great area. Maybe another local would like to hide a new one there. The problem I have faced is that it is a high muggle area during certain times of the year and has gone missing several times. It is just not worth having to keep replacing this one all the time. I am really glad that so many people did get to enjoy the cache and the area.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a micro hidden near a pulloff area along hwy 244. I received the 35mm container from “Plant a Cache“-GC1WQAN. Stealth may be required at times and please be sure to rehide the cache very well.

Horsthief Lake is a very picturesque area nestled amongst the towering granite spires and pines. The lake offers camping and fishing. There is a boardwalk on the eastern side of the lake extending to the southern side. In the summer months locals can be seen diving from a nearby cliff.
There are also numerous hiking trails south of the lake extending into the Black Elk Wilderness area. From here you can access Harney Peak, but it is a very long hike so be prepared. Geocaches are prohibited in the Black Elk wilderness area, but it is still a very scenic area to hike in. Feel free to take a walk around the nearby boardwalk or drop a line in to catch a big rainbow trout.
