In der Nähe von Dahl (N51° 40.434 E008° 51.969) befindet sich einer der größten Erdfälle dieser Gegend.
Dahl liegt in einem Karsttal der Paderborner Hochfläche. Die Paderborner Hochfläche ist von ihrem geologischen Aufbau her der südöstliche Abschluss der Westfälischen Bucht und gleichzeitig die größte Kalk- und die größte Karstlandschaft Westfalens.
Im Westen bildet das Almetal die Grenze zum Hellwegraum mit Haarstrang und Hellwegbörde, an die sich nach Norden hin Lippeniederung, Senne und Teutoburger Wald anschließen. Den Ostrand begrenzt das Eggegebirge. Den südlichen Abschluss begrenzen das Sauerland und das Waldecker Tafelland.
Ein Erdfall, auch Doline genannt, ist eine typische Erscheinung von Karstregionen. Karstlandschaften entwickeln sich wenn leicht säurehaltiges Wasser auf lösliches Grundgestein wie Kalkstein trifft. Normalerweise ist es die Kohlensäure, die das Auflösen des Gesteins verursacht. Die Säure bildet sich, wenn Regen durch die Atmosphäre fällt, und dabei CO2 aufnimmt, das sich im Wasser löst und damit reagiert (H2O + CO2 - > H2CO3). Der Regen bildete am Anfang dieser Entwicklung zunächst noch oberirdische Bachläufe. Als sich, z.B. durch Erdebewegungen, Risse im Kalkstein bildeten, konnte das kohlensäurehaltige Wasser darin eindringen und der Kalkstein fing an sich aufzulösen. Über eine sehr lange Zeitspanne entwickelte sich nun unterirdische Höhlensysteme. Gelegendlich kommt es vor, daß die Decke der Höhle die Last des darüber befindlichen Materials nicht mehr tragen kann. Die Höhle bricht ein und es entsteht ein meist trichterförmiges Loch im Boden, der Erdfall.
Zum Loggen dieses Caches sind diese Aufgaben zu erfüllen:

a) Wieviele Meter bträgt der Durchmesser des Erdfalls?
b) Wie tief ist der Erdfall in Metern?
c) Was ist das Besondere an dem Baum in der Mitte der Doline?
Ihr müsst nicht auf eine Logerlaubnis warten. Unvollständig gelöste Aufgaben können aber zur Löschung führen.

Near Dahl at N51° 40.434 E008° 51.969 you can find one of the biggest dolines in this area.
Dahl lies in a Karst valley of the Paderborner Hochfläche. The Paderborner Hochfläche is from its geological structure the southeast conclusion of the Westfälischen Bucht and simultaneous the largest lime and the largest Karst landscape in Westphalia. In the west the Alme valley forms the border to the Hellweg-area with the Haarstrang and the Hellwegbörde which are northward followed by the Lippe valley, Senne and Teutoburger forest. The Egge mountain lies at its east edge. The Sauerland and the Waldecker Tafelland are the southern conclusion.
A doline is a common surface feature of Karst regions. Karst landforms develop when mildly acidic water acts on soluble bedrock such as limestone. Normally it is carbonic acid that causes this feature. This acid forms when rain passes through the atmosphere picking up CO2, which dissolves and reacts in the water (H2O + CO2 -> H2CO3). The rain first formed streams that in the beginning flew overground. When tears developed in the limestone, for example by earth movements, the carbonic-acid water penetrated into the ground and the limestone began to dissolve. Over a very long period of time underground cave systems developed. Sometimes the ceiling of a cave becomes weak and breaks in and a big hole remains on the surfache, the doline.
