Chi-Town
Cover Up
This station was built to bring people from Chicago to both the
National Park and Dunes State Park so they can enjoy the nice
scenery and have a relaxing day on the beach.
It is said that when this train station was built there were some
bodies discovered in the woods behind the station. Where the train
stops today is not the same location as it was in the past, it used
to stop further down the tracks. The stories that are told today is
that the Chicago Mobster's used this rail system to dump their
bodies and tossed them off the side at this very location. Or they
would take their intended victims on a 'one way train ride' and
dump their bodies here.
So don't be surprised if you feel someone watching you, their just
making sure you don't discover their stash.
This cache was placed by the Start Park Cacher's Campout Committee
with the assistance of DNR staff, you will venture deep in the
thick overgrowth woodlands that haunt this modern day rail
system.
You are looking for an ammo can (yes an ammo can in the
woods...gotta love those). You should park at the Dune Park Train
station (parking coords are provided). You will need a flashlight,
as this cache can only be sought after at night. Go to the posted
coordinates and follow the trail until you see a reflective tack on
your right. (This trail is still used today for visitors to get to
the park.) Once you find the first tack stand next to it and pan
you flashlight to find the next, and so on. The tacks will take you
deep into the woods and will weave back and forth. There is between
10-20 tacks until you see two white eyes with a glowing orange
nose, search that area for the ammo can. Two tacks will lead you to
three tacks that will lead you back out to the trail. This cache is
placed on the Dunes State Park property, but there is no fee to
seek this cache.
Do not get lost, as the wrong people may here you scream and you
may become part of the history of the Chi-Town Cover Up
stories.
