DON'T FORGET THAT YOU CAN JUST TAKE A BOOK. DON'T WORRY IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE TO PUT BACK IN THERE. THAT IS WHERE BOOKCROSSING IS DIFFERENT TO NORMAL GEOCACHING IN THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRADE. GO ON, DON'T BE SHY!! IF YOU WANT TO READ IT, JUST TAKE IT!
Bookcrossing is defined as "the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise". The term is derived from bookcrossing.com, a free on-line book club which began in order to encourage the practice, aiming to "make the whole world a library". The 'crossing' or exchanging of books may take any of a number of forms, including wild releasing of books in public places, direct swaps, 'book rings' in which books travel in a set order to people who want to read a certain book or, in this case, by way of a geocache. Lots of people come to Crantock for their holiday and I thought it was a great idea to provide a place to pick up or exchange a free book to read on holiday. I also wanted to introduce Geocachers to Bookcrossing and Bookcrossers to Geocaching!! Please feel free to take a book but when you get home do register the BCID number on-line at www.bookcrossing.com if it has one. If it hasn't got a tracking number, don't worry you can still take it. Register it yourself if you like but you don't have to!! If you have a book you wish to leave then please do and if you would like to keep track of your book then register it on the Bookcrossing website first. Free downloadable labels are available on this site (I have also printed out a few and put them in the cache too if you would like to take one for later use). Whether you are taking or leaving a book, please could you mention what the book is so that it gives an idea to other cachers what is in there currently. You don't have to leave a book in order to take one!! If you want to read it, just take it. It's yours to do whatever you want with it!!
