Start from River Junction day use area, opened dawn to dusk . No fee, no dogs allowed. There are many places along the road to put in with canoe or kayak, and a ramp at the west end of the area. The ramp at Silver Lake works too, $2 to enter that rec area - a longer paddle, but shorter drive for many. There's seasonal hunting on the east bank of the river, none on the west bank. Caches are all close to the river.
Water levels in the Withlacoochee are quite variable. This section has water for paddle craft in all but the most extreme droughts. There may not always be enough depth for motor boats at points upstream.
