Cesta ke keši je pohodlná,
bezprostredne u keše príkrá a zúcastní-li se lovu malé deti,
bude treba je trošku strežit. Témer ke keši vede
nekolik cest /-icek, využívejte je prosím, nechodte po loukách
když je tráva vyšší a neházejte kameny do louky,
už tak je na ne místní puda bohatá. V zime hrozí krátký úsek
brodení, lyžari/bežkari možná budou chtít
bezprostredne u keše odepnout prkénka.
This cache is quite easily accessible,
only just before the hiding place it gets a bit steeper, so if you
plan to take kids with you, be vigilant. You can choose from few
paths/tracks/roads, please use them, don’t walk on the fields
and don’t throw stones into the fields either, there is
plenty of them naturally, no need for more. In the winter time you
may have to wade a short bit, skiers may prefer to take the skis
off for the last bit.

Benecko leží na západním úbocí
Predního a Zadního Žalého (1019 a 1036 m) na žalské
rozsoše a v údolí potoka Cedronu. Soucástí Benecka jsou
vesnice Horní Štepanice a Dolní Štepanice,
Štepanická Lhota, Mrklov a rada samot. Historickým jádrem
Benecka byl hrad Štepanice ze 13. století, kdy podle
Balbínovy kroniky vládl oblasti Jindrich Jan z Valdštejna. V
soucasnosti se na míste hradu nachází zrícenina bašty a

Benecko is situated on the western
slope of Prední (Front) and Zadní (Rear) Žalý (1019 and 1036
m), on the saddlebow of Žaly and in the valley of Cedron
creek. Benecko consists of the following villages: Horní (Upper)
Štepanice and Dolní (Lower) Štepanice,
Štepanická Lhota, Mrklov and many secluded places. The core
of Benecko used to be the fortress Štepanice from the 13th
century. According to the Balbín’s chronicle Jindrich Jan
from Vladštejn used to be the local emperor at that time.
Nowadays at the place of the fortress you can find only the ruins
of the bastion and remains of the defence system.
Benecko je prvne zminováno roku 1628 jako
Benešsko, tedy sídlo Benešovo. Dalším výkladem
vzniku jména je místní legenda o poustevníku rádu sv. Benedikta,
který sídlil poblíž Jindrovy skály, v místech, kde nyní stojí
kaplicka zasvecená ale sv. Hubertovi.
The first mention about Benecko is from
1628, it is referred to as Benešsko – the domicil of
Beneš. Another possible explanation of the current name of
the village can be in the local legend about a hermit from the
Benedictin friary, who resided close to the Jindra’s rock, at
a place where a village chaple was built few years ago. This little
chaple is, however, sanctified to St. Hubert.
V obci pusobil i vlastenecký ucitel a
spisovatel Josef Šír. Je mu venována pametní deska na
vyhlídkové Jindrove skále. Více

Famous patriot – lecturer and
writer Josef Šír - used to stay and work in Benecko for a
period of time too. See the memorial plaque at the Jindra’s
rock.
Na Benecku i v pripojených obcích se
zachovala rada roubených a krckových chalup krkonošského
typu. Nejnápadnejší stavbou je 18 m vysoká kamenná
rozhledna, postavená v roce 1892 na vrcholu Predního Žalého.

In Benecko and in the appended villages
there still remains a number of log houses typical of
Krkonoše mountains. The most outstanding building is 18 m
high stone view-tower that was built in 1892 on the top of Prední
(front) Žalý.
