Geocache Description:

No hiking, No scrambling, just a nice easy walk.

Silvermine reservoir was design by Thomas Steward, who was also responsible for overseeing its construction by G.S. Firth in 1898. The reservoir was commissioned by the Kalk bay and Muizenberg municipality to take care of their primary water requirements, which it did until 1912. Today it primarily supplies water to the Reserves public amenities and the Westlake golf course.

The boardwalk itself, which is wheelchair friendly, was constructed over the original circular hiking trail as part of an initiative by TMNP to make more areas within national parks accessible to the disabled. It was officially opened on September 4, 2003.

The area around the reservoir is very popular so a great deal of stealth may be required when searching for this cache, which is hidden at the North West end of the reservoir, about half way around the short but very enjoyable circular walk.
