Geocache Description:

Lake Wheeler serves as Raleigh's secondary auxiliary water supply, and this 800-acre lake park (650 acres of lake; 150 acres of park and land buffer) has rapidly become a favorite capital city getaway. Visitors often remark that Lake Wheeler tends to remind them of the scenic locales found in the western North Carolina region. There are several other more difficult ones in this park, but this one is for the kids.

Take a Child Outside - September 24-30

Fifth in the series of 8 caches placed by the Museum to celebrate Take a Child Outside Week, September 24-30. Take a Child Outside is an initiative by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences designed to help break down obstacles that keep children from discovering the natural world. By arming parents, teachers and other caregivers with resources on outdoor activities, our goal is to help children across the country develop a better understanding and appreciation of the environment in which they live, and a burgeoning enthusiasm for its exploration. Enjoy exploring the great outdoors while searching for this cache, and keep exploring long after you have found it.

This cache originally contained an assortment of Museum-related swag, including squashed pennies, a magnifying box, a "Take a Child Outside" magnet, and stretchy critters.
