Geocache Description:

Another celebration of the history of the narrow gauge railroads that once serviced the remote areas of Maine. I grew up in a small town which once had a train depot for passenger services, and I can remember seeing the "hobos" riding in open top railcars, or in box cars with the doors wide open. Once in awhile, a "hobo" would be seen walking the rails through town, waiting on the next slow freight, they could hop aboard. A "hobo jungle" was a camping spot along the railroad, where these travelers would camp between train rides. This hobo jungle is located along the tracks of the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad, between Sanders Station and the roundhouse. It is just a short walk to the cache from either of these two spots. In fact, all three of our S.R.& R.L.R. related caches are within a half mile walk from one end to the other, with a lot of history in between. Like Sanders Station, this cache may be inaccessable when the train is running.
