Der Falkenberger Granit gehört zur Gruppe der älteren variszischen Granite, die vor 310 bis 320 Millionen Jahren etwa in Mitte des Karbons aufgedrungen und erstarrt sind. Vor allem die grobkörnigen, porphyrisch oder farbintensiv ausgebildeten Granite werden als Werkstein für Fassaden, Grab-und Denkmäler und Pflastersteine verwendet. Granite sind eine typische Kombination für horizontale und vertikale Klüftung, was eine Folge der Schrumpfung ist wenn das Magma abkühlt. Entlastungsklüfte die parallel zur Oberfläche sind bilden die heutige Struktur des Granitkörpers. Hier greift auch die Verwitterung an und rundet die kantigen Kluftkörper ab und führt so zum Bild gestapelter Wollsäcke (Wollsackverwitterung).
The Falkenberger granite is a part of the older varizisch granite, which are forced and congealed 310 or 320 million years ago, in the middle of the Carbon. The coarse grained, porphyritic or colour intensive formed granite are used as freestones for fronts, tombs, memorials and pavers. Granites are a typical kombination for horizontal and vertical formation of fissure, which is the result of shrinkage when the magma cool down. Fissure for release, which are parallel to the surface form the today´s structure of the granite body. At this place the alteration affect and make round the edged body. Der Falkenberger Burgfelsen besteht aus porphyrischem Granit. In einer feiner körnigen Grundmasse aus Quarz, Feldspat und Glimmer sind größere Kristalle aus Kali-Feldspat eingestreut. Granite entstehen wenn Gesteine, die reich an Kieselsäure sind tief genug in der Erdkruste versenkt und bei hohen Temperatur- und Druckbedingungen aufgeschmolzen werden. Je langsamer dann die Abkühlung erfolgt desto gröber kristallin wird das Gestein, da die in der Schmelze schwimmenden Kristalle Zeit zum wachsen haben.
The Falkenberger castle rock consists of porphyritic granite. In a grit grained ground mass, which consists of silica, feldspar and mica, are bigger crystals of potassic feldspar. Granites develop when stones, which are rich of silicic acid, sunk in deep in the earth crust and melted on by high temperature and pressure.
