Geocache Description:

End of the line at Fairford

This cache lies near the end of the old Witney to Fairford branch line which was operated by the Great Western railway between 1873 and 1962. A very comprehensive website with the history of this line can be found here. My thanks go to Martin Loader for the permission to use the picture below and for the information on his site.

The railway line passes the station at Fairford for about a further quarter of a mile. It seems that the original plan was to link up with the MSWJR at Cirencester. The picture below shows the end of the line as it was. The cache is placed near the footpath that now passes the end of the line.

The cache can be done combined with the excellent Fairford Flumoxer series, if you've got an hour or twenty to spare!
It is a screw top container in a camo bag.
