The Museum deals with the natural environment of Crete, of Greece
and of Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Eastern Mediterranean is unique at a global level due to the great
ecological and cultural complexity. The evenness as well as the
contrast, the stability, many affinities and the special features
characterizes the area.
The aim of the Natural History Museum of Crete is the study,
protection and promotion of the special features of the area of
Eastern Mediterranean.
The building housing the museum is a recently renovated
classical industrial building. It used to belong to the electricity
company.
The museum also houses many temporary exhibitions. Currently, the Dinos of Patagonia in Crete exhibition will be in the Natural History Museum of Crete till the 6th of September 2012.
The museum is open from 9:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and from 10.00 to 21.00 at weekends. It's worth a visit, there is an earthquake simulator too.
The cache, though, can be found anytime.
More information about the museum at: www.nhmc.uoc.gr
The cache is a film canister with a strong magnet. Mind that the GPS reception may not be good at that spot and, if the museum is open, there may be a lot of muggles around, so special care is necessary. Don't forget to bring your pen!
