Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT on church property. Please return as found. Thank you

Written records relating to Chirk Church began with the Norman occupation and the earliest is to be found in the Pipe Rolls in 1163. Originally the Church at Chirk was regarded as a chapel attached to Llangollen Church. In the taxationof Pope Nicholas in 1291 it is reported as Eglwys y Waen and, with the appropriation of the Church to Valle Crucis Abbey, it was re dedicated to St Mary. .......................................................................................... If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. ..........................................................................................
