Troms military museum is situated at the village Setermoen
”Troms forsvarsmuseum” is a military museum which focuses on the military history of the Norwegian army in the”Indre Troms” area.
Outside of the museum is parked around 40 historical military vehicles ranging from “Jeep” type vehicles up to modern main battle tanks.
This museum is well worth a visit even outside of the opening hours.
The various museum buildings have had different roles during the past, most recently, prior to use as a museum, was employed as a vitiating store.
The museum is located near “Artillerisletta” which is the exercise area for the Setermoen garrison along with the 550 meter long airfield. The airstrip was created in 1955 for the use of the Army’s Air corps for the job of airborne spotting for the artillery using PiperL18C “Army Cub” aircraft and later the Cessna 0-1A “Birddog” aircraft.
The Army Air corps was run down in 1991, and today the strip is used by military helicopters, a local “Army Cub” and RC model planes.
