Frans Gustaf Oscar Bernadotte was born in 1827, the second son of king Oscar I. In addition to prince, he was also duke of Uppland. He was known as the Singing Prince, and had a great talent also in composing and playing piano. He has written many songs that are still popular, such as Studentsången ("Sjungom studentens lyckliga dag"). He died young, only 25 years old, and his younger brother Oscar II was crowned king of Sweden and Norway in 1872.
Quite close to the cache is Carolina Rediviva, the main library of Uppsala University. The building was finished in the 1840-s. In addition to a large number of books, the library also has a display of historic objects, such as the Codex Argenteus (silver bible).
