Geocache Description:

A Short Multi-Cache set around the parish Church of St Andrews in the village of Medstead, Hampshire.

The Co-ordinates above are for the Church Gate. Parking is available nearby. Allow about 20 minutes for this cache.

The village of Medstead is situated in north-east Hampshire, to the east of Winchester, west of Alton and south-east of Basingstoke.

Located on a plateau on the Hampshire Downs between the valleys of the Itchen, to the west, and Meon, to the east, it is one of the highest villages in Hampshire, at over 700 feet (210 metres) above sea level. The views from the village are magnificent and far-reaching, particularly to Winchester and the south west from Common Hill and Chalky Hill.

It is a rural, farming community, supporting predominantly arable farming, with some livestock and, as smallholdings have gradually disappeared due to changing economic circumstances, increasing equestrian activities.

At the co-ordinates above, find the two dates for Victoria. These are ABCD (on the left) and EFGH (on the right).

Now proceed to the Church Porch. J is the number of carved crowned heads in the porch.

Just to the East of the porch is a Grave marked by a Cross. On the Cross is a symbol, identify the symbol and allocate K from the following list:

A Celtic Cross K = 0
An Angel K = 1
A Rose K = 3
A Bell K = 5
An Anchor K = 8
An Eagle K = 9

Now proceed down the tarmac footpath to N 51 07.823 W001 03.977. At this location there is a date on a plaque on the side of the Church Hall. This is LMNP.

Finally onto the cache itself, which is a short walk down a nearby footpath at :

N51 0 H . D J C --- W001 0 [N+J] . [F-K] L P

You are looking for a container about twice as long as a 35mm Film Canister, so just a logbook and no pen, so please bring your own.

If anybody would like to expand this Church Micro series, please do, we would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
