[ENG] Sloka's quarry is a popular place among recreational divers. Although hardly comparable with coral reefs it offers a good insight into underwater world in Latvia as well as a reasonably good visibility (well, this is according to local standards :) The site is also easy accessible - located about 35 km from Riga. There is also a number of underwater "installations", the most famous from which is "Antuuns" - a half-size model of white shark built by a group of diving aficionados.
Cache is located approximately 5 m below water level. It should be reachable by freedivers, but generally SCUBA gear is recommended for exploring the site. Terrain increases significantly during winter, there are also no plans for maintenance during that season. Difficulty rating is more related to underwater navigation than locating of container itself and can vary quite substantially depending on visibility.
The current cache (#4, placed on 03.08.2021):
After several proper containers have been lost in unclear circumstances we have made a not so easy decision to deploy cache as a containerless logbook. The current logbook consists of four underwater writing slates sized 125x150 mm enclosed in a metal casing and is attached with a metal cable to concrete block anchoring Antuuns.
The logbook is suited for logging the cache underwater only, please do not try to remove it. For writing on slates use a pencil (ordinary graphite pencil works well) – occasionally a pencil might be found somewhere nearby, but, just in case, bringing your own is highly advised. We plan to replenish the writing slates on regular basis, but please use the common sense when using the existing blank space.
A good place to start the dive is from parking area at waypoint. either from the left or the right side of an improvised parking area. From the left side the direction is roughly 230 degrees and the distance up to approximately 1/3 of that to the opposite shore.
[LAT] Slokas karjers ir populāra zemūdens niršanas vieta. Tā, protams, nav salīdzināma ar koraļļu rifiem, taču dod labu ieskatu Latvijas zemūdens pasaulē, kā ari izceļas ar salīdzinoši labu redzamību (vismaz pēc vietējiem standartiem :) Atrodoties apmēram 35 km no Rīgas, šī ir arī viena no visvieglāk sasniedzamajām niršanas vietām. Karjerā ir izveidotas ari vairākas zemūdens "instalācijas", no kurām vispopulārākā ir "Antuuns" - baltās haizivs makets, apmēram uz pusi mazāks par pieaugušas haizivs izmēriem, kuru ir izveidojusi un uzstādījusi niršanas entuziastu grupa.
Slēpnis atrodas apmēram 5 m zem ūdens līmeņa. Principā ir sasniedzams freedaiveriem, bet jebkurā gadījumā niršanas ekipējums ir ieteicams labākai karjera izpētei. Terrain zvaigznes būtiski pieaug ziemā, netiek arī plānota slēpņa uzturēšana šajā sezonā. Difficulty vairāk raksturo zemūdens navigācijas, nevis paša konteinera atrašanas, grūtības novērtējumu, un var diezgan jūtami mainīties atkarībā no redzamības apstākļiem.
Pašreizējais slēpnis (#4, novietots 03.08.2021):
Pēc vairāku konteineru pazušanas visai neskaidros apstākļos nācās pieņemt ne pārāk vieglu lēmumu turpmāk uzturēt slēpni tikai kā logbooku bez konteinera. Pašreizējais logbooks sastāv no četrām zemūdens 125x150 mm rakstāmplāksnītēm, kas ievietotas metāla vāciņos un ar trosi piestiprinātas pie betona bloka, pie kura noenkurots Antuuns.
Logbooks ir piemērots tikai slēpņa reģistrēšanai zem ūdens, lūgums nemēģināt to pārvietot. Lai pierakstītos uz plāksnītēm izmantojiet zīmuli (der parastais grafīta zīmulis) – var gadīties, ka kāds zīmulis ir atrodams turpat netālu, bet, katram gadījumam, ļoti ieteicams paņemt līdzi arī savējo. Plānojam rakstāmplāksnītes regulāri atjaunot, bet, katram gadījumam, lūgums esošo brīvo vietu izmantot saprātīgi.

[ENG] A well suited place to start the dive is from parking area shown in waypoint. From its left side Antuuns is in direction of quite exactly 230 degrees and up to approximately 1/3 of distance to the opposite shore. A simpler option might be to head (from either side of parking) in direction of approximately 240 degrees - there is a fixed underwater line between Antuuns and Nesija that might be hard to miss even in poor visibility. Then turn left and simply follow the rope.
[LAT] Ērta vieta niršanas uzsākšanai ir no stāvvietas, kura norādīta waypointā. No stāvvietas kreisās puses Antuuns ir diezgan precīzi 230 grādu virzienā un apmēram 1/3 attālumā līdz pretējam krastam. Vēl vienkāršāks variants ir peldēt aptuveni 240 grādu virzienā (vienalga no kuras stāvvietas malas) - zem ūdens ir nostiprināta virve starp Antuunu un Nesiju, kuru būs grūti nepamanīt pat sliktas redzamības apstākļos. Tad nogriezieties pa kreisi un vienkārši sekojiet virvei.
