The Golden Spike Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

alfamonkey: I have decided to retire this cache as the changing terrain (trees changing) have altered this cache too much from it's original state. I would also like to make sure that this very neat area is available for other new caches. Thanks to all who participated with this one. It has been fun. I also want to thank Drainhook & BRTruit for assisting me on creating The Golden Spike.

THE CODES CONTAINED IN THE FINAL STAGE OF THIS CACHE WILL HELP TO UNLOCK THE SECRET OF THE ELITE CLIMBER'S CLUB

PhotobucketPhotobucket  The famous Golden Spike or "Last Spike" was ceremonially placed at the culmination of the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869 in Promontory Summit, Utah. For the first time a railway connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. This symbolic event forever linked the east to the west in America.

This cache has several similarities to the story of the original Golden Spike and the construction of the Transcontinental RR.

The builders of the RR had to span a continent and overcome the great plains and vast mountain ranges. Many died building the RR.

You will need to overcome various, dangerous and challenging obstacles to complete your endeavor. Hopefully all will survive this demanding physical and mental challenge.

Our great nation was not completed and various states/regions were not linked until east was connected to west via the RR.

Your great adventure will not be complete until all the stages are overcome and you can link the clues discovered to complete your quest.

Skeptics of this monumental undertaking scoffed at the prospect of it's actual completion. Building of the RR was authorized by Abraham Lincoln's administration and was one of costliest civil engineering projects ever attempted and considered one of the most remarkable engineering feats ever completed.

You will also be challenged to complete a challenge that to many "everyday" geocachers may well have seemed "unachievable" when the magnitude of the task was first confronted.

The reward for completing the task will be great.

The Transcontinental RR linked east and west and brought our nation enormous, sustained prosperity.

Eternal immortalization as a Golden Spike alum await brave cachers who conquer the Golden Spike as well as some serious swag... Including a $100 collectible football phone card, & a $25 gift certificate to the Town Street Pub & Grill.

This a dangerous cache which involves climbing trees. DO NOT USE THE GOLDEN SPIKE AS A SUPPORT! IT MAY NOT BE SECURE ENOUGH!

Please only log a find if you personally, physically completed every stage. This is one of the more challenging tree climbing caches in central Ohio and the CO's ask that all stages be individually conquered for the smiley. If you accompanied or assisted someone we would love to see your story logged as a note.
