One too many? Traditional Geocache
LizH: Passed by yesterday and unfortunatley the cache site has been totally ransacked. No sign of the cache or indeed the original hiding location, so time to archive this one as it can't be replaced at the same coords.

A quick cache with a good view and some local history. There's a short hill climb over grass from the suggested parking spot up to the cache.
The big house on the hill was designed by Humphry Repton and built in 1802. It was used as part of the Royal Victoria Home for Inebriates from 1899 to 1921, making it the first and last remaining inebriate reformatory in British history, with high inmate numbers of over 200 until 1915.
These inebriates could be either people convicted of drunkenness four times in one year, or they could be a 'habitual drunkard' who was drunk at the time of committing an imprisonable crime. The ladies were housed in the "upper village", where the new houses of Royal Victoria Park now stand, while the gentlemen were kept in the "lower village", near the suggested parking. The big house was used as offices and the residence of the superintendent. It is now luxury apartments.
The cache is located near the top of the hill so you can enjoy the views. It is a small screw-top container with space for a few small swaps. Please take care not to be seen as the area is popular with dog walkers and teenagers.
