Geocache Description:

Saturday, September 12th is your chance to join us for this awesome paddle/picnic/playtime opportunity!

CSI Crue (that's Cache Scene Investigator Crue to you) and I had the pleasure of attending MSWAHOO's (Carolina's NEFGA Representative) GeoPaddle here in July. On the way home, while having dinner with Jersey Girl and FSUDad before heading our separate ways, all four of us lamented what a shame it was Burgi Dad and Krunch Rescue couldn't come. This GeoPaddle resulted from that conversation. Are you interested in joining us, too

Using a complete cut-and-paste from a previously posted cache (thanks, GatoRx! ) with some minor updates, here are the details:

Join us on Saturday, September 12, 2009, for an educational pit stop along the Juniper Run in the Ocala National Forest.

The Juniper Run is a spring-fed, meandering waterway with crystal clear water teeming with wildlife. Alligators, fish, snakes, deer, bear, and many small mammals have been spotted in the area. Total distance is approximately seven miles from the put-in at Juniper Springs, to the take-out at the SR-19 bridge.

This event will be at the half-way point of the run, *** at a sandy beach about half a mile past the Mother Nature "enhanced" landing previously used for pit stops. *** We should be able to get out and stretch our legs. We'll gather to compare notes and techniques on paddle caching, including comparisons of boats, handy equipment, paddling techniques, and just how in the world to keep your GPS safe yet still usable while you're out paddling; overall, how to make geocaching while paddling a boat more enjoyable. This will also be an excellent place to have lunch.

You're welcome to bring your own kayak or canoe; the park also rents canoes if you don't have your own, and offers a shuttle service to bring their canoes back to the starting point. They will also shuttle your own vessel back for a small fee. *** We will arrange our own vehicle shuttle for drivers as well. *** Call the Juniper Springs concessionaire for rental reservations in advance at (352) 625-2808.

Some special notes for making it to this event:

- No disposable containers or wrappers are allowed on the run for your food and drinks. No saran wrap, plastic bags, soda cans, or glass bottles - please pack appropriately. *** Yes, the rangers do occasional cooler checks! ***

- The run has a strong current, with many low-hanging trees, or trees that have fallen just under the surface of the water. Once you start floating down the run, there's no way out until you get to the take-out point, or you paddle back against the strong current.

- This event will start around 12:00 noon. Plan to get to the put-in around 9:00 AM for last minute preparations and safety brief, and to be afloat by 10:00 AM.

Please click on the related web page link above for more general information about the run itself.

~~ Have a blessed day. Happy caching. ~~
