Another addition to the Church Micro series, courtesy of
sadexploration.
Iping may well have been one of the first places in England to
have known Christianity as it was situated on the Chichester to
Silchester Roman road. The Romans began to leave England at the
start of the 5th century and from then on, this area was colonised
chiefly by the Anglo-Saxons. Evidence of this is found in the
number of place names containing 'ing' which means 'people of' in
Saxon tongue. Thus we have Iping (Ippa's people), Woolbeding
(Wolfbedas's people) and so on.
Little survives regarding the early history of Iping Church,
though there must surely have been a Saxon and then Norman church
here. The church as it stands today was finally rebuilt in
1885.
There is some parking available outside the church. You will
need to answer 2 questions to find the co-ordinates for the cache,
which is situated outside the church grounds.
The above co-ordinates are for the first question - what is the
year above the door? Answer = 1AB5
Then go to N 50 59.996 W 00 47.221. You can sit here to see the
doctor. What are his dates? Answer = 19CD-19EF.
To find the cache, go to; N 50 59.(A+C)(E-C)(B/2) W 00
47.(B/F)(D-2xC)(A-C)
THREE CACHES HAVE DISAPPEARED SO THIS IS NOW A SMALL MICRO
If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would
just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can
keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid
duplication.
