Geocache Description:

This is a 'meet-and-greet' event is a slight twist. The 'Art of Geocaching' event, is showcasing the creative and artistic talents used in Geocaching. The exhibits created for Geocaching by Geocachers young and old, from around the world

The Exhibits

There are over 200 individual exhibits on show, ranging from geocaching-related art pieces, wooden nickels, pathtags, geocoins, camouflage containers to photos and videos.

The Venue

The venue is the Pitt Studio art gallery located in the W1 district of Worcester, just outside the city centre. The art gallery was once a 19th century coach house tucked behind Chestnut Cottage please don't feel intimidated about crossing the drive to access the gallery. The gallery has 24m2 floor space with over 50m2 of wall space.

Parking spaces near the art gallery are limited; however, it is a short walk from city centre parking. One parking space is reserved at the gallery for disabled access and dropping-off. Please inform me beforehand if you intend to use this facility.

The event is being held on Saturday 17 October 2009 from 10am to 10pm. Don't worry your not expected to stay the full 12 hours. It is intended to be a drop-in arrangement. You can visit any time long as you wish, which could be after a day of Geocaching in and around Worcester, or even shopping, or both!

Light snacks with wine for adults and soft drinks for drivers and children will be available. The Chestnut Tree public House is opposite the gallery and they offer pub lunches and a wide selection of beers. I will provide more information on local places to eat shortly.

A toilet is available in the gallery.

Historical Note

I know some geocachers appreciate a historical description with the caches they search for, so this is for you.

The art gallery started life in and around 1880 as a coach house with accommodation for two horses and a carriage, and may have been in the employment of the Georgian houses from either Britannia Square or the estate up on the hillside over the canal. It went through many changes in commercial use and at one point was an abattoir for the slaughter of livestock and indeed Chestnut Walk and the cottage was once known as cut-throat cottage and cut-throat lane.
