Geocache Description:

Another mining geoadventure for all you hardcore cachers! Cache is not at the posted coordinates. They will take you, however to the mine entrance. You must enter the abandonned mine, spludunk for about 100 meters first, and THERE you will find your happy face.

Just behind the mill and through the chain link fenced gate sits the main open cut of the Morning Star Mine. Here the zinc vein was close to the surface so the miners worked the ore by digging a large trench. Further along the vein got deeper into the hill side and it became easier and cheaper to mine the ore using a tunnel. A large volume of rock had to be removed by the miners to get to the zinc ore. This waste rock was usually dumped over the hill side in dumps like the one you will climb to the entrance of the mine.
An area that is rich with history, Morningstar Mill, and Decew Falls has a little something to offer everyone. You may just want to stop in and say hi while passing through on the Bruce Trail. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the sights and sounds. Maybe check out the restored mill and get some flour. In the summer months you might even enjoy a hike and climb down to the coolest swimming hole around! When attempting this cache please wear proper footwear and bring a friend. Catch the Bruce just behind the mill and take the second trail to the left down the blue "rope". When we placed this cache we simply strolled down the middle of the creek and enjoyed splashing in the flowing waters. The water in the mine, not so much. We recommend a flashlight and some water shoes or rubbers in the colder months, and expect to get dirty :o) Have fun and happy cachin' :ox
P.S. If you haven't already experienced the rush of the water just downstream, don't forget WW's Slip and Slide Falls. It is at the very top of our favorites list!
