Merknad: Denne cachen ligger nærmere Nedre Slottsgate enn Øvre Slottsgate, men den er lokalisert i forbindelse med Christiania Torg som ligger ved enden av Øvre Slottsgate.
Øvre Slottsgate går mellom Rådhusgata og Grensen. Den fikk sitt nåværende navn rundt 1750, tidligere het den Raadhusgade.
Etter bybrannen i 1624 bestemte kong Christian IV at byen skulle gjenreises på vestsiden av Bjørvika til området nord for Akershus festning. Den nye byen Christiania fikk et rettvinklet nett av brede gater, og i tillegg murtvang for å hindre fremtidige branner. Tomter til kirke og rådhus ble avsatt ved Torget i krysset mellom dagens Rådhusgate og Øvre Slottsgate (gamle Raadhusgade). Bygget som i dag heter Gamle rådhus, sto ferdig i 1641 og ligger på hjørnet mot Nedre Slottsgate - adressen er Nedre Slottsgate 1. På grunn av forfall ble Gamle rådhus etterhvert oppgitt som rådhus - i 1733 flyttet råhuset til Rådhusgaten 7.

This cache is part of a geocaching game in Oslo, called Geopol. The cache series shows all streets in the norwegian version of the Monopoly game, with emphasis on historic places and how our city has changed over the years. Øvre Slottsgate is located in the old part of Oslo as you can see from some of the buildings here. The city centre was built here after a large fire in 1624. The danish-norwegian king Christian IV decided to rebuild the city north of the Akershus castle and fortress, and the city was named Christiania. The old city hall was located in Nedre Slottsgate number 1 between 1641 and 1733. The nice square in the picture below was the old market square in Oslo until a new one was formed at Stortorvet (another Geopol cache is located there). The square is located at the end of the Øvre Slottsgate (Upper Castle) street, but the cache itself is located closer to the Nedre Slottsgate (Lower Castle) street.
