Prírodní památka Cedicové varhany u Hlinek
Cedicové varhany u Hlinek se nacházejí v opušteném lomu
asi 1km od obce Hlinky, po levé strane silnice Hlinky –
Prílezy. Lom byl založen na severovýchodním svahu vrchu Hurka
(817,0m) v lávovém proudu olivinického nefelinitu tretihorního
stárí. V zachovalé lomové stene je ukázkove vyvinuta sloupcovitá
odlucnost cedicové horniny, lidove nazývaná „kamenné
varhany“.
Prírodní památka byla vyhlášena v roce 1997 na
ploše 0,69ha.
Co je nefelinit?
Nefelinit je jemnozrnná až celistvá vulkanická hornina, ve
které se mikroskopicky prorustají minerály nefelín a pyroxen
(augit). Pokud je významne zastoupen i olivín, mluvíme o
olivinickém nefelinitu. Olivín tvorí žlutozelené vyrostlice a
je také prevažující složkou hrubozrných uzavrenin
cizorodých hornin (xenolitu), které byly stoupajícím magmatem
vytrženy ze zemského plášte. Nefelinit patrí do skupiny
cedicových vulkanitu stejne tak jako olivinický bazalt, který tvorí
samostatný výlev prímo na vrcholu Hurky.

Basalt Organs near Hlinky are located in a deserted quarry ca. 1
km from the minucipality of Hlinky, to the left from the road
Hlinky – Prílezy. The quarry was established on the
north-east slopep of the Hurka Hill (817.0 metres above sea level)
in lava flow of olivine nephelinite from the Tertiary Period. In
the preserved quarry wall, there is perfectly developed columnar
jointing of the basalt rock, commonly called „stones
organs“. The Natural Monument was designated in 1997 on an
area of 0.69 hectares.
What is nephelinite?
Nephelinite is a fine-grained to aphanitic volcanic rock, where the
minerals nepheline and pyroxene (augite) are combinated on a
microscopic level. If olivine presence is significant, then we
speak about olivine nephelinite. Olivine forms small yellow-green
crystals, and it is also the predominant component of
coarse-grained inclusions of heterogeneous rocks (xenoliths) whitch
were removed by the rising magma from the Earth´s mantle.
Nephelinite belongs in the group of basalt volcanic rocks,
similarly as olivine basalt, forming a separate rock outcrop
directly on the peak of Hurka.
