Geocache Description:

Join us for a little Meet & Greet Picnic Event in Soldotna on Sunday, August 9th starting at 2pm! Come rain or shine, we have a roof to keep us dry. Share your caching stories; learn some new tips; ask your geocaching questions of some experienced cachers. Bring a buddy who's never cached before. We'll get them hooked in no time.

Bring your Travel Bugs and GeoCoins to share, trade, or discover.

SSO JOAT is going to fire up the BBQ and treat everyone to burgers & hotdogs. Contact him directly if you can help out with a side dish, Alaskan potluck style. In order to be sure we have enough food for all, please RSVP with your "Will Attend" log including the size of your group no later than 5pm on Friday, August 7th!

There will be a number of day caches placed within easy walking distance of this event. There is a competitive game on the day caches with a prize going to the team who collects the most points during a timed cache dash... with a few twists. Specific details and rules will be provided at the event, but I think you'll enjoy this. Think Milton Bradly meets Geocaching at a Scavenger Hunt. The just of the game is that the various caches have tickets with different point values. When you find a cache you may take only 1 ticket (they are coded to the cache). At the end of the timed event, you must be back at the starting line to "cache in" your tickets. But we're not done yet. During the formal counting of the tickets, some may have picked up a special action ticket that they can play against another team to "steal" some points. Tickets will be played out one cache at a time like a board game.

Hope to see you there!

8/9/09 POST EVENT:

A total of 21 "Cacher Handles" signed in on the official event log. The day-cache game was run by 7 teams of cachers. With 24 caches placed and a 65-minute play time, the final scores are as follows:

1 - "Crow Killers" (Tinman4x & Anglefire25) found 16 caches and accumulated a total score of 144 points. They "Muggled" 2 caches along the way (legally muggled, as part of the game).

2 - "Tomanoble & Omonra" found 13 caches for a score of 128 points. The "Crow Killers" picked up and played a "Geo-Thief" card against them, stealing 3 points.

3 - "Snap RN" found 11 caches for a final tally of 124 points. They also "Muggled" a cache during the game.

4 - "Cavy Guy" started out with "Minnie_Sota", but she soon had to abandon him on the trail ;-) He still went on to find 11 caches and pick up 107 points worth of tickets.

5 - "Thegeogeos & Mahoney Girl" logged in 9 caches and claimed 92 points. They "Muggled" one cache in the process.

6 - Team "Ifpep & HZFaulkner" managed to knock out 7 caches, scoring a total of 71 points.

7 - Finally, the new-caching team of "Akduck & The_Firefly" worked their way around 3 cache finds and even after being foiled by a cache that had been "Muggled" by the "Crow Killers", they managed to scrape up 31 points and learned some new GPSr tricks along the way.

Congrats to Tinman4x and Anglefire25 for not only winning the game, but also scoring a couple sweet door prizes!
