Geocache Description:

This is part 2 of the Castle Hedingham De Vere Trail B. Suggested parking is at the Memorial Hall (n51 59.379 e0 35.845).

The De Vere trail is made up of two routes, A & B, which explore the area around Castle Hedingham, once the ancestral seat of the de Veres, Earls of Oxford, and where I grew up. Route A is a set of 5 caches in a circuit around the Colne Valley Railway, a mile long section of track with a fully reconstructed station, signal box, railway yard, and several steam locomotives. Route B is a set of four caches, the last of which is a mystery/puzzle cache, you'll need to visit the first three to solve it. This series revolves around Hedingham Castle, a well preserved Norman keep built in 1140, with four floors including a magnificent banqueting hall and minstrels gallery. The village also has a C12th church, three pubs, two restaurants, and charming tea rooms. We hope you enjoy our first set of caches as much as we enjoyed placing them!
