Jelgavas lidlauks tika uzbuvets PSRS laika. Tolaik tas bija
visapsargatakais militarais objekts pilseta, par ko vel
šobrid liecina masivie dzelonstieplu žogi teritorija.
Kopeja lidlauka teritorija ir vairak ka 10ha. Lidlauks bija
Lidlauka skrejcelš, kas izbuvets no lielam betona plaksnem,
sakotneji bija 2,5 km garš, tomer pec neatkaribas
atgušanas dala lidlauka plakšnu tika izsaimniekotas,
tadejadi skrejcela kopgarums ir krietni vien sarucis.
Šobrid lidlauka teritorija aktivi darbojas izpletnleceji un
aerokluba entuziasti.
Lidlaukam esot ari oficials statuss, tapec ta teritorija atrodas
ari muita. Interesanti, ka kada no internetavotiem pat apgalvots,
ka Dienvidslavijas bombardešanas laika šaja lidlauka
neliela transportlidmašina trenejušies NATO
piloti.
Starpcitu, netalu no lidlauka ir saglabajušas ari militaras
bazes paliekas (56°40'9"N 23°42'46"E; piekluve pa Uzvaras
ielu).
motordeltaplanieristi).
[ENG]
Jelgava airfield was constructed during Soviet times. At that time
it was the most secured military object in the city, which is even
nowadays testified by bulky posts with barbed wire around the
territory. The total area of the airfield is more than 10ha. The
airfield was constructed for needs of pursuit planes/fighters and
army helicopters; it was also possible to receive small cargo
planes. Yet now it is being asserted that it would not be possible
for cargo planes to land here.
Runway was constructed using huge concrete plates. Initially the
runway was 2,5k long, yet after Latvia regained independence and
management of the airfield was not a top priority, gradually many
of the plates were stolen, thus now the length of the landing strip
is considerably smaller.
Currently parachutists and enthusiasts of aero club use the
airfield, the runway and the remaining buildings.
It turns out, that the airfield still has the official status,
therefore customs is situated there. A more exciting fact one may
come across on the Internet is that during bombing of Yugoslavia,
NATO pilots were training here on a small cargo plane.
As a matter of fact, not far away from the airfield you can also
find the remains of the military base (56°40'9"N 23°42'46"E; access
from Uzvaras street - Uzvaras iela).
The cache is placed in one of the Soviet times cars that were used
by airfield personnel. Although the sign at entrance (at Meiju road
- Meiju celš) suggests this is a private territory, it is
available to the public - just tell the old guard that your are
there for parachute jumping or any other related business (also
motor gliders and motor delta-gliders can be seen in the
airfield).
