Geocache Description:

A 100ml Clip & Lock container, just off the canal between Frampton Mansell and Chalford with space for small swaps. only a few hundred yards form the nearest parking. A short, steep climb from the bottom, or a longer, more leasurely descent from the top.

Welcome to my first cache hide. After being introduced to some delightful areas by finding other caches I thought I would return the favour with some of my favourites. The waypoints below are for the recommended parking spot (start of footpath), alternative parking for the more energetic adjacent to Aston Down airfield, and finally the opposite end of the footpath. The cache is on a permissive path in the Golden Valley between Westley Farm near Aston Down and Bakers Mill at Frampton Mansell. A local map showing the path can be found below. Although not shown on an OS map, the permissive path through Westley Farm is well signposted between the given waypoints, running parallel to the railway for much of its length. If approaching from the western end of the path from the road, go over the stile, immediately take the left fork and follow around to the right, Over the stile into the valley, then follow the bank around to Jackdaw Bridge. Westley Farm's previous owners inform us that Jackdaw Bridge was built by Brunel's local engineer Charles Richardson to lower stone from Jackdaw quarry to the barges parked in the canal below. The requirement for the bridge arose when a cutting was formed for the railway that runs through the Chalford valley. The path from Bakers Mill is quite steep, narrow and can be slippery in places so mind your step. The railway is also in close proximity so take care with the little ones. Original Contents: *Log *Pencil *Pencil sharpener *Eraser *Book Mark *Wire Puzzle *Bouncy Ball *Purple Hair Band. ****Cache relocated 16-7-21 at request of new landowners. The cache is accessible without straying from the permissive path near the lower end of the footbridge. As per caching rules, it is not located on Network Rail property or within the dry stone wall. The relocated cache uses the same small container, with a new log and pencil.****
