The church is built on the site of an 8th century Minster church
and still boasts a 14th century chancel and Tudor tower with a ring
of 10 bells. Inside the church is a notable font, one of only 31
lead fonts in the country. The octagonal base of Purbeck marble is
13th century, and the hexagonal lead bowl bearing images of the
twelve apostles is a century earlier. It escaped destruction by
Cromwell’s men during the Civil War by being encased and
concealed in a wooden frame.
It’s also the church where Stormtroopers 1 & 2 got
married and Stormtroopers 3 & 4 were christened!
