Geocache Description:

EDIT JULY 2013 - Many Cacher logged this EC in the last month without sending an answer email or added at least a picture, so I can see they were there!!! This is an EarthCache! It is NOT possible to log it without sending an email to me! I had to delete Logs without this!
***************************************************

Visit this colourful and exciting geothermal area with it´s boiling mud pools and steaming fumaroles. It is part of the Krafla-vulcano system.

You can find Hverir (also called Hverarönd) at the feet of the mountain Námafjall near the header coordinates. You will smell it!

There are also the information boards you will need.

Now let´s take a closer look…

A fumarole (Latin fumus, smoke) is an opening in earth's (or any other astronomical body's) crust, often in the neighbourhood of volcanoes, which emits steam and gases such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, and hydrogen sulphide. The name solfatara, from the Italian solfo, sulfur (via the Sicilian dialect), is given to fumaroles that emit sulphurous gases.

To log this cache as a found ((Please don`t wait for my permission!)) you have to email me the answers to the following two questions via geocaching.com (don't post answers in the log!):

1.) Fumarole: Along with the steam comes fumarole gas. Tell me what it contains and for what it is responsible?

2.) Mud pots: What is the reason for the typical mud pots?

Don’t use the internet for your answers. Email me the exact words you can find on the sign!

Please please upload a photo that shows you, your GPS or only the landscape in this area. It reminds me of MY beautiful holiday there!

I hope you enjoy this Earthcache!
Have fun and please stay on the paths!
